Everest Region

Sagarmatha or the Everest (8848 meters) is renowned as the worlds highest mountain. Whats lesser-known about it is that the gigantic peak is sheltered in the Khumbu region. The Khumbu region (also known as the Everest region) is a part of the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. Khumbus elevation ranges from 3300 meters to 8848 meters (the summit of Mount Everest). Namche Bazaar, the famous gateway to Everest, also lies in this region. Other smaller towns such as Thame, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche, and Kunde also place their humble presence in the region. The Khumbu region is no ordinary destination. Everest is accompanied by other snowy beasts like Lhotse (8516 meters) and Ama Dablam (6812m). Legendary glaciers like the Khumbu also fall in this region. Khumbu region mainly defies ordinary natural features to sustain not only snowcapped peaks but also deciduous forests. The sweet fragrance of rhododendron forests spread throughout the glorious Himalayas. The locals, mostly Sherpas, are focused on conquering high peaks and discovering newer trails. Hence, the meaning of “Sherpa” signifies “The Guardians of the Himalayas." The Khumbu region also begets Sagarmatha National Park and its buffer zone. Being home to birch, juniper, and blue pine forests, the park adds more color to the already diverse vegetation of the Khumbu region. Identified also as an Important Bird Area, Sagarmatha National Park is home to about 118 species of birds, including grander species like the blood pheasant. Other species like red pandas and snow leopards can be spotted in higher elevations. Everest Base Camp Trek is undoubtedly the best-known trek in the Khumbu region. The EBC trail incorporates almost two weeks of long demanding trekking to view the most beautiful scene of Everest. However, there are lesser challenging alternatives such as Pikey Peak Trek, which is only about nine days long and of moderate grading. The highest trekking peak, Mera Peak, also falls in the Khumbu region. This trek includes 21 days long journey. Khumbu region also has the challenging experience of Everest Three Peak Climbing. It is a demanding journey of 34 days across the summits of the Mera Peak, Island Peak, and Lobuche East Peak. This mountaineering experience is the best for adrenaline junkies who value the journey as much as the destination. The region also offers excellent expeditions such as the Mount Everest expedition and the Ama Dablam expedition. The Khumbu region is in its best bloom from March-April. However, the treks in this region are more enjoyable from September to November. As the region is rich in touristic value, Visit Nepal 2020 has placed several offers in this region. So, spring and autumn season of 2020 will be highly rewarding for tourists traveling to the Khumbu region.
